Jeep Takes the Next Step to Zero Emissions with a Fully Electric Jeep near El Paso, TX

Earlier this spring, during Dare Forward 2030, a presentation of its business strategy through the end of this decade, Stellantis (the parent company of Jeep) also gave away a couple of surprise product announcements. One of these was the unexpected image reveal of the first-ever, 100% fully electric Jeep near El Paso, TX, which will launch in early 2023, according to the company’s CEO, Carlos Tavares. This battery-electric Jeep is the next step in expanding the brand’s vision of Zero Emission Freedom and the full electrification of its SUV lineup.

Tell Us More

Few details could be seen over the webcast, but the little SUV was shown in a bright, cheery yellow paint accented with a glossy black and appeared to be about the size of the current Jeep Compass. However, the actual size of an EV can be hard to determine from photos or videos alone, thanks to the flexibility of packaging made possible by electrification. Incidentally, no name was given for the vehicle.

The design and styling are indeed what we’d expect from Jeep. It has four doors, body cladding, and chiseled fender lines that give it a chunky look. There’s also a contrasting roof color and split headlights. You’ll notice an “X” motif on the taillights reminiscent of the Jeep Renegade, and the rear doors’ handles are cleverly hidden within the C-pillars.

What about Power and Performance of the Fully Electric Jeep near El Paso, TX?

No details on the powertrain were given, adding to our curiosity. But if it’s as small as we think it may be, it could be built on Stellantis’ STLA Small platform, which will accommodate capacities anywhere between 37 to 82 kW, and up to 300 miles of driving range.

Is There Another Electric Model?

Since the Jeep brand is built upon excitement and adventure, you may be thinking their first endeavor at a fully electric Jeep near El Paso, TX would be a bigger and bolder attempt, rather than this practical and demure sized SUV. Well, you’re not far off the mark.

At last year’s annual Easter Jeep Safari off-road event in Moab, Utah, the company previewed the Magneto, an electric concept SUV based on the Wrangler Rubicon. From this, some sources estimated a production-ready electric Wrangler to arrive in 2024. This year, the 2022 EJS saw the next stage: the Magneto 2.0, a “terrain-dominating off-roader that carries you far, far off the beaten path.” Could this prototype be more like what we can expect?

In a press release, Jeep said the Magneto 2.0 includes four lithium-ion battery packs with a combined power of 70 kW, a maxed-out torque of 850 lb-ft, and crazy-fast acceleration. The Magneto can zip from 0-60 mph in less than five seconds, thanks to a powertrain calibration that holds the peak amperage for 10 seconds.

However, this is only a concept vehicle, so it’s only to give Jeep engineers some ideas as to what will and won’t go into the actual production model, which is still an indication of what the company can accomplish in the move to electrification.
