2021 RAM TRX near Santa Fe NM is RAM’s Newest Contender

The Ford F-150 Raptor will finally be getting some real competition because RAM is introducing its own contender, the 2021 RAM TRX near Santa Fe NM. Expect its debut late summer 2020.

The 2021 RAM TRX has been a long time coming. The TRX (or T-Rex, aka Tyrannosaurus Rex) is RAM's newest competitor in the high-performance truck segment, aiming head-on at the powerful Ford Raptor. The RAM TRX - affectionately called the Rebel TRX - was first shown as a concept vehicle in 2016 at the State Fair of Texas. The concept was based on the RAM 1500 Rebel and came with a ton of off-roading equipment, a wide body, and a powerful engine under the hood.

Then in 2018, it was announced that the RAM TRX would be going into production. The next step was a teaser video that was recently released on social media, and RAM made the official statement that the TRX will debut late this summer with early deliveries arriving in the beginning of 2021.

The 2021 RAM TRX near Santa Fe NM can't be seen in the video, as the truck is obscured by a huge cloud of dust while doing some hard driving in the desert, but the unmistakable sound of its roaring Hellcat V8 can definitely be heard! This is where the Rebel TRX one-ups the F-150 Raptor; supposedly, leaked VIN numbers suggest the 2021 RAM TRX will be powered by the same supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi found under the hood of the Dodge Challenger SRT muscle car and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Track hawk SUV.

Although the RAM Rebel TRX concept generated 575 hp, the production version is expected to put out over 700 hp just like the Hellcat-powered siblings. The push rod V-8 is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission in most applications-the Challenger SRT Hellcat offers a 6-speed manual-and we expect the truck to continue that custom. While it's possible that RAM will offer a rear-drive-only TRX, we think it's likely that all models will boast all-wheel drive.

In comparison, Ford only packs a twin-turbo V6 with 450 hp into the Raptor, so the 2021 RAM TRX near Santa Fe NM will easily outperform its main rival. RAM is aware of this, because during the 2019 RAM 1500's reveal, there was an Easter egg in the official press photos showing a toy T-Rex towering over a velociraptor. This alluded to the RAM TRX's advantage over the Ford Raptor.

2021 RAM TRX near Santa Fe NM: Exterior Modifications

Exterior modifications such as a wider track, lifted ride height, rugged flared fenders, chunkier all-terrain tires, and an immense hood scoop will make the RAM TRX look a lot more aggressive than the standard RAM. Upon close inspection of spy-photos of the camouflaged 2021 RAM TRX near Santa Fe NM,a more sophisticated suspension setup that's not found on the regular Rebel can be seen, as well as a beefier rear axle with eight-lug wheels that are usually reserved for heavy-duty trucks.

RAM has redefined expectations for truck interiors with its newest half-ton pickup that shows off rich-looking materials and flawless insulation from outside noise. Expect those upscale surroundings to be on full display inside the TRX. Similarly, its cabin will probably get sportier treatments that include carbon-fiber accents and extra bolstering on the front seats. We expect the RAM TRX to be available with an extended quad cab or a crew cab, but no official answer has been given.

The RAM Rebel comes standard with a horizontal 8.4-inch touchscreen or an optional 12.0-inch touchscreen in portrait orientation. It's possible that both touchscreens, andperhaps, just the larger one, will be outfitted to the 2021 RAM TRX near Santa Fe NM. Its infotainment system will surely support Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. We would also expect the option for additional charging ports as well as the more powerful Harman Kardon sound system, plus lots more tech.

We will discover more about the 2021RAM TRX in the upcoming months, so keep checking back with usonline or in person at Fiesta RAM!
