The future of Dodge may be electric, but the 2023 Dodge Durango SRT near El Paso TX isn’t going to fade quietly into the night. Back for an encore performance, the Hellcat still packs the same power punch from the crazy supercharged, 710-horsepower 6.2-liter Hemi that lived under the hood in 2021.
The Durango SRT was initially slated to be offered only for the 2021 model year because it didn’t meet newer federal regulations. However, during Dodge Speed Week 2022, Tim Kuniskis, Dodge’s CEO, let it be known that his engineering team worked their magic and got the Hellcat to meet all the federal guidelines.
According to Kuniskis, “The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat has generated a crazy amount of enthusiasm and demand since it was introduced in 2020 -we even extended its initial production run- so it seemed appropriate to bring back the most powerful SUV ever as part of our historic 2023 model-year Dodge lineup.”
Durango SRT Power and Performance
For anyone needing a refresher, the 2023 Dodge Durango Hellcat makes the 0-60 mph run in just 3.5 seconds. That’s quicker than many of the most expensive and coolest cars made today! In truth, it’s nearly as fast as a Ferrari 458 Italia, and it has the power and weight to actually drive over the Ferrari! Keep it going from there, and you’ll make the quarter-mile in an NHRA-certified 11.5 seconds, which is pretty close to the time made by the Hellcat Challengers and Chargers. The Durango SRT’s top speed remains at 180 mph, which isn’t the maximum in the category, but that 710-hp Hellcat engine does make it the most potent ICE-powered, straight-from-the-factory SUV in the entire world! And thankfully, Brembo brakes on all four wheels help bring all this power to a stop!
In addition to the whopping 710 ponies, the 2023 Dodge Durango SRT near El Paso TX puts out an equally insane 645 lb-ft of torque, which enables it to tow up to 8,700 pounds when properly equipped. Every bit of this power is sent to all four wheels by an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Interior Comfort in the 2023 Dodge Durango SRT near El Paso TX
If you’re wondering how a mega-horsepower SUV can be a family vehicle, understand that the Durango SRT is equipped with three rows of seating and ample cargo space. Like Mr. Kuniskis said, “Muscle enthusiasts also have families, and the 2023 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat can get those families where they want to go and can tow 8,700 pounds.”
Besides the SRT Hellcat, the entire Durango lineup for 2023 features a refined, performance-inspired interior with a leather and suede cabin and a driver-centric, Challenger-like cockpit. The speedy UConnect 5 interface is available on the largest-in-class 10.1-inch touchscreen, which is angled 7 degrees toward the driver. The Hellcat expands the lineup to six different models, where it joins the Durango SXT, GT, R/T, Citadel, and SRT 392.
Exclusive to the Durango SRT Hellcat are heated and ventilated Nappa leather and suede front seats with embroidered SRT logos on each and red-accented gauges. You can upgrade the cabin to Laguna leather in a black and Demonic Red color scheme with embossed Hellcat logos, as well. A flat-bottom steering wheel includes paddle shifters and an SRT logo with red backlighting.
The center console provides space for a wireless charging pad, a roomy storage bin, a pair of cupholders, and a T-handle shifter.
