Keeping the Muscle in the 2023 Dodge Charger Daytona SRT in Las Cruces NM

If you’re a muscle car fan, you can relax and breathe easier because Dodge’s muscle car EV concept “Looks like a Dodge, drives like a Dodge, and feels like Dodge. The 2023 Dodge Charger Daytona SRT in Las Cruces NM was unveiled during Speed Week as a concept car, with a much anticipated, save-the-best-for-last type of announcement. Tim Kuniskis, the CEO of the Dodge brand under Stellantis, was noted as saying, “After seeing this, no one is going to want to talk about anything else.”

Its name was taken from the classic Dodge Charger Daytona, the first car to reach 200 mph on a NASCAR track back in 1970. Like its predecessor, the Daytona concept won’t follow the lead of others (other EVs, in this case). It will set itself apart from other electric vehicles with three patent-pending features.

Patent-Pending Innovations

  • R-Wing – An aerodynamic nose cone that lets air pass through the front of the hood, improving downforce and creating a longer front end, hearkening back to the Dodge Daytona of the 70s. The nose keeps the blunt 1968 Dodge Charger profile while enhancing aerodynamics and nearly hiding the headlights.
  • Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust – An industry first- a unique exhaust system for an EV- the FCE will give the Charger a similar sound as the 126-decibel sound of today’s Hellcat. Air flows through the exhaust system when the auto converts battery electricity to power and the sound it produces goes through an amplifier and tuning chamber in the back of the car. You will see and feel the pressure from the exhaust coming from the rear.
  • eRupt – This EV muscle car will have a multi-speed transmission with electro-mechanical shifting reminiscent of an internal combustion engine. It doesn’t produce more power but lets drivers feel each shift point, according to Kuniskis.

Power and Performance

Dodge is keeping quiet on full specs and details about the Concept 2023 Dodge Charger Daytona SRT in Las Cruces NM, but we do know it will get its power from a new 800-volt Banshee propulsion system. Lower trims will be offered with less powerful 600V or 400V systems.

Thanks to the concept’s standard all-wheel-drive, we know there are at least two motors in the concept vehicle, one in front and another in the back. The AWD is crucial in making the Daytona SRT faster than the Hellcats that have come before it, Dodge engineers state.

Although we don’t know the number of gears in the eRupt transmission, we know there will be three available power levels, with six more offered through Direct Connections authorized parts dealers, all of which will be covered under the factory warranty. All nine power levels were engineered in advance, with hardware in place for more upgrades at the time of purchase or later.

All nine power levels also come with an adrenaline boost; a feature called the PowerShot push-to-pass button. A button on the flat-bottom steering wheel gives an instant burst of power, providing an extra 25 horsepower on demand for just a few seconds, just enough to zoom past the car in front of you.

There are four drive modes from which drivers can choose; Auto, Sport, Track, and Drag, which change the driving dynamics along with corresponding sounds, displays, and interior lighting.

No driving range numbers have been given yet, but the CEO says all models will deliver the range needed to compete with rivals. The Charger will use Stellantis’s new STLA Large platform, which is capable of 500 miles of range, but likely won’t be reached due to elements that have been added to the car. Vehicles that use the STLA Large platform are expected to use 101-118-kWh batteries.
